The Maurienne Five

There is a place in french Alps called The Maurienne Five , situated in the Mont Cenis Massif.

It is an area roughly delimited by five summits from highest to lowest: la Pointe de Ronce, la Pointe du Lamet, la Pointe Clairy, la Pointe du Quart et la Punta Mulatera (which stands past the border in Italy).

The Five have inspired gloomy myth and legends and disturbing folkloric traditions for centuries, but the recent history has seen dozens unexplained disappearances recorded for the last hundred years.

Today’s people don’t listen to hearsay any more and many a rambler has enjoyed the fresh air of the Alps without incident.

Once in awhile though, a lone hiker or even a small group gets lost in the fog and disappears without a trace.

This is why The Maurienne Five have been nicknamed “Les Cinq Pointes du Diable” by rural populations.
